There are a lot of ways to watch video online, offering so much flexibility and options that some savvy users have forgone a monthly cable bill in exchange for an internet connection and a paid video subscription service. This may be a good option for people that are trying to cut their bills and save money; especially if they don’t want much TV anyway.

Hulu Plus: $7.99/month: Hulu Plus offers unlimited TV streaming for only $7.99 a month. It has partnerships with many well-known TV networks, like FOX and NBC. Brand new shows are usually available online the day after they originally aired on TV. Besides new episodes of TV shows, it also offers TV episodes of older TV shows or seasons.

Netflix Streaming: $4.99-$7.99/month: Netflix offers 2 streaming plans– a limited streaming plan for $4.99 a month and a 2 device unlimited streaming plan for $7.99 a month. They have past season of TV shows and several movies available.

Gaiam TV: $9.95/month: Access a huge library of fitness, yoga, and new age DVD programs online by fitness and wellness giant Gaiam. $9.95 is much cheaper than a monthly gym membership!

crackle streaming moviesCrackle: FREE: Crackle provides free past TV shows and movies for online streaming. They also have a free iPad and iPhone app. Almost too good to be true!

Television Shows: FREE:  NBC.com, ESPN.com, ABC.com, MTV.com, and others offer free online streaming (with commercials) of their current television shows, usually available the day after they premiere on TV. This is a good alternative to getting DVR.

Many users consume streaming content online via their iPad or tablets or they connect their computer to the TV in order to view it. While this is an easy way, some Blu-Ray players, gaming systems (like Playstation) and DVD players also allow you to access your online streaming content account via their device. (Note: I recently purchased the Sony BDP-S390 Blu-ray Disc Player with Wi-Fi and I love it!)

What are your favorite ways to watch streaming content online?
