Walt Whitman is one of my favorite writers. I even took an entire graduate-level class on him and Emily Dickinson at Kansas State. I still have my college copy of Leaves of Grass, as it inspired me to be more independent and free-thinking. Hopefully these quotes will do the same for you.
“To have great poets, there must be great audiences.”
“Keep your face always toward the sunshine – and shadows will fall behind you.”
“Whatever satisfies the soul is truth.”
“The future is no more uncertain than the present.”
“Re-examine all that you have been told… dismiss that which insults your soul.”
“If you done it, it ain’t bragging.”
“Henceforth I ask not good fortune. I myself am good fortune.”
“Be curious, not judgmental.”
“I accept reality and dare not question it.”
“I have learned that to be with those I like is enough.”
“We convince by our presence.”
