Google is usually my go-to search engine for all things search, but I like keeping in the loop of all the up and coming search engines to see what they can offer.

Blekko

Blekko focuses on taking the spam and webmasters that try to game the search engines out of search results. According to their about page:

At Blekko, our mission is to create a differentiated search experience by delivering high quality, curated results and organizing content into categories. Our sophisticated search technology powers our suite of products – a web search engine, mobile app, and social news platform.

It has an original search algorithm that allows it to find it the highest-quality results for your searches, especially for medical and technology related searches.

DuckDuckGo

DuckDuckGo allows you to search anonymously, without being tracked (like Google does using universal sign-in and cookies). It also has a built-in chrome plugin that can allow you do your searches within Chrome.

SocialMention

This is a great social media and discussion search engine.

Have you used any of these search engines?

This list from AllMyFaves has a great list of search engine alternatives as well, as does Wikipedia.
