I was recently approached by a member of the BizNameWiz team and asked if I’d like to review their business name creation services. As I just had to come up with a business name of my own a little over six months ago (Moxie = courage + Dot = dotcom), I was definitely intrigued and asked if I could try out their second tier option:

I thought that the middle option was a good balance and since I’m picky, I thought 100 options would be a good start. Next, I had to brainstorm a business I wanted to create. I thought I would actually choose a business that I do want to create in the future, that way the BizNameWiz pros aren’t utilizing their talents in vain and I would actually have a personal investment in the names they came up with.

Here’s the business I described to the pros:

I have a marketing agency, MoxieDot, but I’ve also been thinking about starting an app company. I like using “moxie” or another word that encapsulates “small but mighty”. I’m also all about girls/women in tech without being too feminine so I’d be interested in twists on that too.

Once they received my order and confirmation (you enter in the above description during the ordering process), I was sent a follow-up email with a few additional questions. I enjoyed their thoroughness and appreciated the below questions, because I think my answers really came through in the final name options I received.
  1. Is there anything we should avoid in the name? Like, any particular words which you don’t like in your company name? Nothing negative or sexualizing the topic (like “Sexy Apps” or something, not that you would do that!)
  2. Do you know any competitors’ websites we can research? basically any app company? Don’t have any in mind. I know Pat at SmartPassiveIncome.com has apps, and I like his style.
  3. Do you have a preference for one-word names? Two-word names? How about three-word names? I’d say one or two.

After a few days, I received my business names. I was excited to open the PDF they sent me to see the results! I ended up being pleasantly surprised (I’ll admit, I thought it would be difficult to come with 100 awesome business names) and while I didn’t love ALL of them, the majority I understood their thought process and some really stood out. In addition to the ideas, the BizNameWiz team also included an applicable domain name, if it was available.

Here are some of my favorites (don’t steal them!):

  •  BotDotz
  • Dear Moxie
  • PixiePort
  • Tuff & Sprite
  • Moxiety
  • MicroMoxie
  • BetterBot
  • Bitsyzilla
  • MiniMoxie

I really wish I would have had BizNameWiz around when I spent all those hours back in August trying to brainstorm my business name! Even though I stuck with a name I do really like, I know how difficult the process is and I think BizNameWiz’s services are awesome.

In addition to business names, the company also offers taglines, product names, and domain names. I will definitely consider using them in the future and I appreciate being able to review their service.
