Women are key to the success of a business. Don’t believe us? Just do a quick search on Twitter for any of the following hashtags: #WomenInBiz, #WomenInTech,  #SHEO, #GirlBoss, and dozens more. That’s right, you’re seeing thousands of tweets. It highlights the evergrowing need for women in leadership roles and women taking on entrepreneurial pursuits.

Here at Six Stories, we are proud to be women-led and owned which is why we want to take a moment to talk about #WomenInBiz.

Why are we so passionate about women-led businesses? We think women can change the world so we want to encourage other women to follow their dreams. Check out the below facts about women in business:

#GirlPower

Between the years of 1997 and 2006, businesses that were women-owned (or predominantly-owned by women), saw growth at nearly 2x the rate of all U.S. firms. During this time, employment at women-owned companies grew 0.4% in addition to annual sales grew 4.4%. (The Balance)

Women want order! Which is why they have progressed in what types of roles that are pursuing. In 2016, more than one of three lawyers was a woman as opposed to 1974, when 1 in 10 lawyers were women.

More women are working. The unemployment rate for women is currently 4.8 percent, down from a peak of 9.0 percent in November 2010. (BLS)

Women are above average when it comes to the rate at which they start companies. 1.5 to be specific.

Want to boost your happiness level? Start a business! Female entrepreneurs rank their happiness level close to three times that of women who don’t run their own business.

How many women-owned companies are there in the US? 9 million. Oh, and these companies generate over $1.4 trillion in revenue and employ more than 7.8 million people.

Women-owned firms now lead growth in 8 of the top 13 industries including sectors like real estate, finance, insurance, and wholesale trade.

Women are busy! So much so that in the United States, women launch over 1,200 new businesses every single day.

Businesses owned by women of color comprise almost 32 percent of all women-owned companies in the US.
